DONEGAL YOUTH SERVICE LAUNCH AMBITIOUS 3 YEAR PLAN

first_imgDonegal Youth Service launched their 3 year strategic plan which aims to engage 7,500 young people a year through their youth clubs and projects.The service plans to work towards the 5 National Outcomes for Children, as set out in “Better Outcomes: Brighter Futures’, which is the national policy framework for children and young people.The 5 identified outcomes include; active and healthy, physical and mental wellbeing, achieving full potential in all areas of learning and development, safe and protected from harm, economic security and connected, respected and contributing to their world. DYS has 14 staff and approximately 500 adult volunteers, their mission is to offer young people opportunities to learn and develop through youth work processes in a safe and enjoyable way.Regional Director Lorraine Thompson said, ‘this plan was devised from a countywide needs assessment with young people and we are confident that we can achieve better outcomes for young people with the service we provide’Frank Dooley, Vice Chair of the Donegal Youth Service Management Committee also spoke of the commitment of the service to achieving their aims, and with the 1916 Commemorations underway this year he cited the 1916 Proclamation as an inspiration to all those working with young people, which proclaimed to aspire to “equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens” while also providing the “resolve to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and of all its parts, cherishing all of the children of the nation equally”.Donegal Youth Service is based at 16-18 Port Road Letterkenny.
