Responding to customer outrage–and the threat of boycott–Amazon pulled the title The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: AChild-Lover’s Code of Conduct from its store late last night.Angry Amazon users responded to the presence of the book bycommenting on its Amazon page. More than 2,000 users left largely negativecomments about the title on the page. The book’s author, Colorado-based Phillip R. Greaves II,defended his book to the press, “True pedophiles love children and would neverhurt them,” he told CNN. Asked where he drew the line, he said, “Penetrationis out. You can’t do that with a child, but kissing and fondling I don’t thinkis that big of a problem.”Greaves told CNN that his book is an “attempt to makepedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved inthem, by establishing certian [sic] rules for these adults to follow. I hope toachieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope thattheir doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter [sic] sentencesshould they ever be caught.”Greaves told CNN that he has not engaged in any sexualactivity with children as an adult.Amazon, for its part, has yet to officially respond to thepress, but the company has issued a response to concerned users,Let me assure you that Amazon.com does not support orpromote hatred or criminal acts; we do support the right of every individual tomake their own purchasing decisions. Amazon.com believes it is censorship notto sell certain titles because we believe their message is objectionable.
