Tari rugby league affiliates with PNGRFL

first_imgThe financial backing more than K20,000 from prominent businessman and son of Hela, Benjamin Gipe puts to rest the league’s struggles in its affiliation with the major rugby league body since 2015 last year.Known to be the major league in the province apart from five other minor leagues, the support from the businessman puts the league in a position to take part in the coming PNGRFL AGM next month.President of Tari league Joseph Kaupa thanked Gipe with his assistance saying the support will go a long way in developing rugby league in the area.Kaupa said this was the first time such a big amount of money was received. He said it was a last minute rescue from Gipe who made it possible for them to pay their affiliation before the set deadline given to them by the PNGRFL.He added that the support in other way will help bring peace in the province which is currently undergoing conflict in the recent political status in the province.Gipe in his speech challenged political leaders and bureaucrats in the province to consider supporting rugby league in the province. He said political leaders have never looked into supporting small sporting associations in the province  and his support  should be seen as an eye opener to other leaders.Picture: Benjamin Gipe hands over a dummy cheque of K20,500 to Tari League President Joseph Kaupa to help them affiliate to the PNGRFL.Picture by Faracas Metherelast_img read more
