The former Texas A&M star landed with the Memphis Express – a team that has struggled to keep a quarterback on the field.Former Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg was benched in favor of Zach Mettenberger. However, Mettenberger suffered an ankle injury, opening the door for Brandon Silvers. With Manziel on the team, however, some wondered if the team would turn to the former NFL starter.Earlier this week, the Express announced Silvers will get the start this weekend.“He’s been in the film room all week, he’s been studying and meeting with the coaches a lot,” co-offensive coordinator Bobby Blizzard said of Silvers. “He’s been getting a lot of reps. He’s getting comfortable with what we’re trying to do against Birmingham.”Manziel won’t get the start in his first game with the team, but he’ll serve as the backup.Birmingham and Memphis kick off at 8:00 p.m. ET on NFL Network.last_img read more
